Geoscience Australia has an online gazetteer that allows you to conduct a place name search for any location around Australia. You can view the location on a map and zoom in for further information. You will also find various other kinds of Australian maps on their website, such as climatic, topographic and mineral maps.

Geoscience Australia also have a distance calculator called ‘As the Cocky Flies’, which is an Australian expression meaning the shortest distance between 2 points. It should therefore not be a surprise to discover that this calculator allows you to estimate the shortest distance between any 2 locations in Australia. Please note that the actual distance by road may be different.
