Reciprocal healthcare agreements

Medicare | Health insurance | Reciprocal healthcare agreements

Certain countries have a reciprocal healthcare arrangement with Australia---the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland, Finland, Italy, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, New Zealand and Sweden. If you come from one of these countries, you are eligible for Medicare assistance for any necessary medical treatment. You should be aware that the agreements do vary a little between countries. There is more information about health agreements available from Medicare Australia's website.

If you and your family are not eligible for Medicare, you should obtain health insurance to cover your stay in Australia. If you are have applied for permanent residency, then you will be eligible to apply for Medicare coverage.
