To work in Australia, you will need a tax file number, which is issued by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). (Please note that having a tax file number does not prove you have the right to work in Australia.)

Generally, anyone with an income in Australia is required to pay tax. Tax returns must be calculated at the end of each financial year and submitted to the ATO by 31 October. The Australian financial year begins on 1 July and ends on 30 June.

The ATO Individual’s website has essential information on how you can meet your taxation obligations. It also states current tax rates and gives contact details in case you need further information.
