Tasmania is separated from the mainland of Australia by Bass Strait. With an area of 90,758 square kilometres and a population of around 487,000, Tasmania's state capital Hobart is home to 200,000 of those residents. In addition, 1.38 million hectares of the State is listed as World Heritage area.
