Postgraduate medical councils

The Confederation of Postgraduate Medical Education Councils (CPMEC) is a national body that develops, monitors and evaluates postgraduate medical education. The first 2 postgraduate years after medical graduation (PGY1 and PGY2) provide the ground for future vocational training. These first years are spent primarily in public hospitals and/or community settings.

Among other things, State and Territory Postgraduate Medical Education Councils are typically concerned with the PGY1/intern year (and sometimes PGY2) accreditation of hospital training posts. The level of involvement does vary between States and Territories.
