Northern Territory (NT)
The State capital of the Northern Territory is Darwin. This city is located on a peninsula on the north coast of Australia and has a population of around 100,000. The NT covers 1,346,200 square kilometres but only has a population of around 200,000---approximately 1% of Australia's total population. A significant amount of land in the Territory is Aboriginal land and travellers must obtain a permit to enter those areas.
