Work as a Doctor in Australia

First steps

To learn about the issues that an overseas trained doctor (OTD) must address to work as a doctor in Australia, you should start with the Checklist for OTDs. Make sure you also read Important advice for some useful tips about the registration process.

Once you have completed the Checklist and determined the specific steps that you will need to take, DoctorConnect provides additional information to help you. For example, you can learn more about Australia's health system, working in Australia after obtaining registration and find useful resources for making a life in Australia. The relocation checklists in this section will walk you through the process of moving from one country to another.

The Queensland Health Skills Development Centre has been funded by the Department to develop an Online Cultural Orientation program for OTDs. This program is now available from the following link - Cultural Orientation for OTDs.

In addition, a number of the Specialist Medical Colleges are being funded by the Department to develop various orientation programs. The first of these the online orientation programs of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG), and the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) are now available from their respective websites - see RELATED LINKS.
