The Indigenous Australian population was already linguistically and culturally diverse prior to European settlement with roughly 700 distinct languages spoken at the time of European arrival.

Today, Australia is one of the world’s most multicultural countries with migrants from around 200 countries. The influence of this diverse population can be seen in many aspects of everyday life.
