Employ an overseas trained doctor

Recruiting

There are a number of ways in which an employer may recruit an overseas trained doctor (OTD). Direct recruiting methods may include advertising in medical journals or newspapers, posting ads to job sites under the medical/health vacancy sections or on the relevant Specialist Medical College website. Your local Rural Workforce Agency or Division of General Practice may also be able to advertise your vacancy.

Alternatively, you may choose to use a medical recruitment agency. Employers or agencies representing employers may use any agency to fill their medical vacancy. However, the Department of Health and Ageing may meet the cost of recruitment fees associated with placing an OTD in an eligible vacancy under its international medical recruitment program.

Whatever avenue you choose to recruit your doctor, make sure you read the information under Employing an OTD to ensure that you fully understand your responsibilities as an employer of an OTD.
