What’s an eligible location?
The Australian Standard Geographical Classification – Remoteness Areas system (ASGC-RA) is used to define eligible areas. ASGC-RA 2-5 locations are eligible for the HECS Reimbursement Scheme.

How are payments scaled?
Payments are scaled by remoteness according to the ASGC-RA classification of the location where training is undertaken or services are provided.

Who’s eligible?
To receive payments under the Scheme, you must:
- have been an Australian or New Zealand citizen or permanent resident of Australia at the time you finished your degree
- have completed an accredited Australian medical course, leading to the award of a Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery degree (MBBS) or equivalent
- have completed your final year of study and obtained your medical degree in 2000 or later
- be undertaking training or providing medical services in ASGC-RA 2-5 locations.
