GP Anaesthetist Locum Scheme

GPALS aims to maintain and enhance the access of rural communities to quality local GP anaesthetist care by providing subsidised locum support to the rural and remote GP anaesthetist workforce in ASGC-RA 2 to 5 locations.
This support allows rural GP anaesthetists to take time off to rest or undertake ongoing education and training.
GPALS commenced September 2009 and is administered by the Department of Health and Ageing.

Subsidies

GPALS offers subsidies to eligible:

  • rural GP anaesthetists towards the costs of a locum placement, and
  • locum GP anaesthetists for travel time and travel costs.

Subsidies available under the program

Type of Support Subsidy
Subsidised locum fees $750 per day (maximum of 14 days per annum)
Travel time $750 maximum per placement
Travel costs $2,000 maximum per placement
