Work as a Doctor in Australia

Conditional registration

The term ‘conditional registration’ may seem a little confusing when referring to the registration of specialist doctors. Once a specialist achieves recognition by one of the Australian Specialist Medical Colleges, they are eligible to apply for conditional medical registration by the State or Territory Medical Board. In this situation, ‘conditional’ is a reference to the fact that the specialist may only work in the particular speciality in which they have been recognised rather than conditions imposed for other reasons, such as the requirement to practise under supervision or in an Area of Need.
