Work as a Doctor in Australia

AMC practice examination

Standard pathway | Area of need pathway | AMC practice examination | Australian Medical Council examination

The Australian Medical Council (AMC) provides a practice test for the Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) examination, which you may access on the AMC website.

The practice exam is designed for AMC applicants to familiarise themselves with the computer-administered MCQ examination. Completion of the AMC practice exam can help to provide overseas trained general practitioners (GPs/family physicians) and hospital non-specialist doctors with an indication of the likelihood of obtaining medical registration in Australia.

The practice examination consists of 50 questions and has a 1 hour time limit. You will receive a score at the end of the exam. The official AMC examination contains 250 questions.

Please note that the questions used in the practice exam will NOT be used in the official exam.

There is a short survey at the beginning of the practice exam, which you must complete before being able to access the online practice exam. However, you will not be asked to provide any details that will identify you---all users of the practice exam remain anonymous.

The AMC recommends reading a range of publications in preparation to taking the official examination. You may wish to read these publications prior to taking the practice exam. More information about these publications can be found in the AMC examination section of DoctorConnect.
